Lockout Tagout, abbreviated as LOTO, is a safety procedure used to prevent accidents and injuries when maintaining or repairing machinery or equipment. It is an important part of a safety programme, especially in industrial and engineering environments. 

LOTO involves locking and tagging energy-isolating devices, such as switches, valves or taps, to ensure that they are not accidentally switched on during maintenance or repair work. The process involves isolating, locking and tagging the energy source with a clearly visible label (tag) to indicate that work is being carried out and that the equipment should not be activated.
